Khalifa International Stadium hosted the "Wings for Life World Run" on Sunday, May 4, 2025, a global humanitarian sporting event aimed at supporting scientific research to find a cure for spinal cord injuries.
The event was unique in that participants from around the world started at exactly the same time, 11:00 AM UTC (2:00 PM Doha time). The event brought together professional athletes, amateurs, and wheelchair users in a joint race that did not rely on a traditional finish line. Instead, a "Catcher Car" began pursuing the runners 30 minutes after the race started, determining the moment when a participant’s race ended once they were overtaken by the car.
What made this humanitarian event special was that 100% of the entry fees and donations went directly to supporting research into spinal cord injuries, making it a live example of combining sports with humanitarian efforts to serve noble social causes.
This year’s event was part of a series of races organized simultaneously in several countries around the world, to raise awareness about this vital issue and reinforce the concept of global collective effort. Participants were invited to use the goal-setting tools available on the official event website to help them determine the distance they wished to cover before being caught by the Catcher Car.
Hosting this event at Aspire Zone foundation provided an opportunity to highlight the local community's commitment to humanitarian values and charitable work, as well as to enhance Qatar’s position as a global sports destination.
Mr. Abdullah Mohammed Al-Menhali, Head of Operations at Aspire Zone Foundation, secured first place in the event. The second edition of the event witnessed great success and a large public turnout
