The penultimate round of the Qatar Furjan League 2025/2026 kicked off on Saturday evening, 16/05/2026, amid an exciting atmosphere and strong encounters that witnessed intense competition in the title race and the battle for qualification spots for the Qatar Furjan Cup 2026, leaving all possibilities open ahead of the highly anticipated final round.
The round began with Al Ruwais securing a 4-0 victory over Umm Qarn. Al Ruwais star Yousif Ali Al Sulaiti opened the scoring in the 27th minute of the second half, before Umm Qarn player Mohammed Nafea Al Sheibi scored an own goal in the 35th minute to double the lead. Abdulrahman Jibry Al Yahri added the third goal in the 42nd minute, while Hamad Ahmed hussain completed the four-goal tally during stoppage time.
In the second match, Al Sakhama achieved a commanding 5-1 victory over Hazm Al Markhiya. Turki Khaled Al Karbi gave Al Sakhama an early lead in the 6th minute, followed by Abdul Latif Hassan Al Ishaq, who scored the second goal at the start of the second half in the 28th minute. Zakaria Oqba Abbasi scored Hazm Al Markhiya’s only goal in the 30th minute, before Al Sakhama took full control by adding three consecutive goals through Faisal Ali Al Hassan in the 33rd minute, Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani, and goalkeeper Mame Boub from the penalty spot during stoppage time.
The final match of the first day witnessed one of the surprises of the round, as Al Khissa managed to defeat Al Nasr 3-2. Al Nasr took an early lead through the outstanding Khalifa Salah Al Abdullah in the 4th minute, but Al Khissa quickly responded with two consecutive goals scored by Khaled Ali Al Yafei in the 10th minute and Abdulaziz Abdullah Al Yafei in the 12th minute. Khalifa Salah equalized for Al Nasr just two minutes later, ending the first half in a draw. In the second half, Khaled Ali Al Yafei scored the winning goal for Al Khissa, giving his team its third victory of the season.
The round continued on Sunday evening, 17/05/2026, with two heavyweight encounters, highlighted by the thrilling clash between Al Maida and Al Qalayel, which ended in a 2-2 draw, delaying Al Maida’s title celebrations until the final round.
Al Qalayel started the match strongly, with Abdulhadi Moajab Al Dosari scoring the opening goal in the 8th minute, followed by Ahmed Mohammed Al Riyashi adding the second in the 10th minute. However, Al Maida quickly responded through Faisal Fareed Al Abdullah in the 18th minute, ending the first half with Al Qalayel leading 2-1. In the second half, Al Maida continued to press until Saif Abdullah Al Marikhi scored the equalizer in the 32nd minute. The final minutes witnessed great excitement as Al Qalayel used its experience to maintain the result and almost snatched a winning goal, only for Al Maida’s goalkeeper to deny a dangerous chance in the dying moments.
Al Maida needed a victory to officially secure the league title before the final round, but the draw kept the title race alive, especially after Umm Al Jamajim secured a difficult 2-1 victory over Al Hilal in the match preceding the Al Maida vs. Al Qalayel clash.
Mohammed Salah Al Nile scored for Umm Al Jamajim in the 25th minute near the end of the first half, while Nawaf Ahmed Ashbeeh added the second goal in the 39th minute. Al Hilal’s only goal came through Zayed Ghazni Khan from a free kick in the 42nd minute.
As a result, attention now turns to the decisive final round, where Umm Al Jamajim will face Al Sakhama in a must-win encounter, while Al Maida will take on Al Nasr in a crucial match where victory would be enough to secure Al Maida’s first-ever league title. Meanwhile, Umm Al Jamajim awaits any stumble from Al Maida in hopes of claiming the title for the first time as well.
The league is also witnessing intense competition for qualification spots in the Qatar Furjan Cup 2026, with Al Ruwais and Hazm Al Markhiya competing to finish the season in safe positions, especially as the teams finishing in eighth, ninth, tenth, and eleventh places will enter qualification playoffs for the tournament.
