It was then when she decided she wanted to earn the title of being the first Qatari female to complete the ironman race. Training for her first ever triathlon in the middle of a pandemic didn’t come easy. This meant pools were closed, and access to parks for training was extremely limited, but she didn’t let that stop her.

Lolwa’s motivation wasn’t the challenge of completion, but to define what it means to be a Qatari woman. The very strength of Ironman’s brand and appeal made it her chosen route to make her case. “I’m doing this for my daughter,” she states, “I want her to see me as something more than a wife and a mother”.
