The Leabaib team clinched the Ferjan Golden Square Cup 2024 after defeating Al Maida in the penalty shootout with a score of 5-4. The match ended in a goalless draw after regular and extra time in an exciting game that showcased technical skill and determination from both teams to win the title.
The match saw a remarkable attendance and was characterized by sportsmanship. At the conclusion, Aspire Zone Foundation, the tournament organizer, awarded the championship to Leabaib.
The Ferjan Golden Square Cup kicked off on Friday, May 31, 2024, featuring the top four teams from the Qatar Ferjan League, organized by Aspire Zone Foundation. The matches were held at the Simaisma and Al Daayen Youth Center Stadium.
In the semi-finals, league champion Umm Salal faced Leabaib, who was fourth in the standings. The match initially ended in favor of Umm Salal with a score of 1-0, but the result was annulled, and Umm Salal was handed a 3-0 loss due to violations of player participation regulations.
Al Maida, on the other hand, triumphed in the semi-final again Khalifa City with a 2-0 victory, with Maher Mohammed Awad scoring in the 27th minute and Hamad Hafez Al Marri converting a penalty in the 49thminute, leading both Al Maida and Leabaib to the final.
This tournament is part of the continuation of the Qatar Ferjan League 2023-2024 season and will be followed by the Qatar Ferjan Cup, which will bring together all the teams from the previous league.
