Just days after opening its registration process to the public to partake in the 8thedition of the Ramadan Sports Festival, Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) has already reached capacity and decided on the final list of teams participating at one of the festival’s most anticipated annual events, the men’s football tournament, which is scheduled to commence on 8 May 2019.
It is expected that more than 1,000 participants will take part in the various group and individual competitions that will form part of the schedule for the 2019 Ramadan Sports Festival. Reaching capacity of the men’s football tournament so early on shows the level of local anticipation there is this year ahead of the festival beginning.
In the group category, 16 teams have confirmed their participation in the men’s football tournament. The basketball, volleyball and futsal competitions will be held for males only and 12 teams will participate in each competition. Handball and basketball competitions will feature six teams in each category. Hockey tournaments will be available for both men and women.
It is expected that the individual competitions will attract a large number of participants, coming from all age groups. This consists of youth fitness competitions, women’s fitness and most excitingly, the wall climbing tournament and Aspire Dome walking.
AZF has also organised table tennis activities for the persons with disabilities in various categories, which witnesses a large turnout every year.
The success of AZF’s previous years has motivated the renowned organisation to increase and diversify its activities to better accommodate as many segments of Qatari society as possible. Not only during Ramadan, but also throughout the year.
